For over two years, six partner institutions from Greece, Turkey, Israel, Malta and the UK have been working together to tackle issues of site management, training for heritage professionals, and interpretation at five pilot prehistoric sites. As a result of the Temper project, four site management plans have been developed for the sites that will guide their long-term management for up to 25 years. Educational programmes implemented as part of Temper have involved just over 1000 children and have resulted in around 600 children visiting a prehistoric site and participating in on-site educational activities.
The training programme brought together 52 professionals from archaeology, museums and tourism sectors from Greece, Turkey, Malta and Israel. The wealth of experience gained during this project has led to an edited volume by the Temper team, drawing on other examples from the Mediterranean, which includes guidelines on preparing site management plans and educational programmes for prehistoric sites. In April 2004 an international conference on management, interpretation and education at prehistoric sites hosted by the Temper project attracted around 100 delegates from all over the Euro-Mediterranean area.
